Summary:
After a short nightmare of a young Touya crying in a field while his father reaches out to him, Touya wakes up in the hotel that he and Yayoi stayed in. Apparently this memory is extremely embarrassing to Touya. Yayoi stresses to Touya that there is no more love between Yuki and him, and then takes the time to explain to Touya that he is a hindrance to Yuki’s rise as an idol. Yayoi also hints that Yuki will be entering the prestigious Venus Music Festival. Oddly enough, Eji never allowed Rina to enter, but this will be a big test of Ogata Productions. Each studio can only send one artist, and a coy Eji wants to send Yuki. That’s fine, because Rina has had enough of this BS, and decides to leave Ogata Productions to Yuki’s dismay.
Elsewhere, Haruka and Mana discuss tennis training, and Mana is interested in lessons. Haruka knows that Mana has the hots for Touya, but lets it go. Touya’s dad gets overexcited at the idea of Misaki pining for him, and has to be taken to the hospital after collapsing. It’s a problem with his heart, and Akira feels guilty while Misaki is acting oddly and refusing to leave Fujii-san’s side. Things are worse than what Touya is telling Misaki, but Fujii-san will likely need a pacemaker. Also, even though Touya has an answering machine now, he’s still unreachable. Touya is the busiest unemployed slacker I’ve ever seen, but I guess being a harem lead is a full-time job.
Reaction:
Between the CD sales and the fold quartz, I know exactly how Eji thinks this Yuki vs. Rina battle is going to play out, but I’m firmly in my girl Rina’s camp for this fight. This was another confusing episode, and Eji was as puzzling as ever. He’s got a plot with President Kanzaki, and I wonder if this is some odd tough-love move to push Rina higher. I’m hoping it’s not and that Rina runs circles around the other girls and obliterates the competition while playing her rifle-guiltar with her teeth. The only problem is that Rina seems to have no concept of breech of contract, but perhaps Eji’s legal team is completely incompetent.
I like what’s going on with the Yayoi subplot, but I wonder why she was so upset about Hiraki-san’s blackmail plot in previous episodes. If all Hiraki-san has is pictures of Touya and Yayoi together, and Yayoi’s claim that there’s no real love between her and Touya, then Yayoi shouldn’t be upset. The only thing I conclude is that Yayoi wants to break up Touya and Yuki on the sly, and is worried about her performance review. Eji’s decision to turn a blind eye and unleash his (hopefully competent) legal team on Hiraki-san support this conclusion, as does his warning to Yayoi to make sure that Yuki doesn’t get hurt.
