Sora no Manimani 02
The show begins with the introduction of Makita Hime; a girl with some nice bouncing… red hair (also very fluffy)! She’s the hawt-babe among the first and second year students, but as a set of flashbacks would have you know, it wasn’t always like that. Her hair was ridiculed constantly during childhood, but one playboy by the name of Saku Ooyagi told her it was pretty. Now that Hime-chan and Saku are in the same class, she can finally put on her advances, but one very tiny girl stands in her way.
Oh boy! A new slave to do all the work… I mean Welcome to Sea Slugs!
It's a Hard Knock Life…
Unfortunately, Saku doesn’t recognize her at all, so Hime-chan’s only choice is to join the Astronomy Club to break off those two love birds (with one stone). During a Club Party, Fuumin (Upper-Lip girl) ruins their plans by laying down some facts. Their club activities aren’t out-of-this-world for an Astronomy Club *hyuk*, so the Club Captain has an idea. He suggests they should go out star-gazing to better acquaint themselves. Unfortunately, when the Club President says it will be a wonderful day, it starts to rain. Their only choice is to crash Saku’s place and grab a free meal.
"We're auditioning for American Idol and/or High School Musical 4!"
WHAT?! I CAN REPLACE PAULA ABDUL IN AMERICAN IDOL?!?
I'm ten times better than Ab-Dull! I'll even get a little "Randy" if you want me to! *winks*
At his house, Saku’s mom is excited to see Mii-chan once again, and they all gossip about Saku while he keeps to himself. The rest of the episode is finally spent star-gazing in which the bond between everyone is tighter than a 10 year old loli. The End.
KYA~! I'll finally get to meet Simon Good-Moo and we can play Simon Says!
Impressions:
KYAAA~ This episode was great! My expectations are blowing like a girl you can find at the back alley of the street… Speaking of those people, I’m glad Hime-chan isn’t the stereotypical tsundere character, but a sweet, misunderstood girl. I’ve grown a soft spot for her and the flashback sequences, although I will note: WTF WAS SHE WEARING?!?! Okay, she still looked cute in it, but still! I find it even more surprising that Saku would blush at the sight of her outfit, but maybe it was the mini skirt.
I also can’t believe the loser character is quite literally a LOSER! I thought he was just the childish-loser, but he’s also the perverted one (as in, he joined the photography club just to take pics of girls in bikinis, he dry-humped Saku, he reminds me of an obsessed loser blogger, etc). I still find him quite funny though, especially the cheesy sound/visual effects. In fact, I think the playfulness as a whole is a strong point of the show (you’ll notice that in the screen shots above). Everything from Hime’s excited/nervous gerbil noises to her fantasies of Saku lift this lighthearted comedy to high status!
The end of the episode was also pretty sweet (sweet as in “awwww”, not as in “GNARLY DUDE!”) I can relate with Saku’s speech about reading many things but never experiencing them in real life. For example, I’ve never had a RL girl glomp all over me, I don’t know how to ride a bike, I don’t have any RL friends, etc. Overall, excellent episode! I hope the rest of the series is just as good!
