Kimi ni Todoke 11-12
Alright… so it’s been a few weeks since I blogged about this show. Been really busy over the holidays, but now I’m back!
Behold the power of the red shirt!
Summary:
"What do you mean you're out of taiyaki?!?"
After confessing her feelings about Kazehaya to Sawako, Kurumi was hoping that Sawako would back off and leave Shota to her, but instead Sawako tells her, sorry but no dice. Obviously mad, Kurumi spazzes out at the surprised Sawako and tells her flat out that ‘cute girls’ are disadvantaged when it comes to guys and storms off. With her naiveté at maximum Sawako takes her words at face value and wonders how she never realized how hard cute girls had it before.
Not quite Hiromi owning everyone at basketball, but I'll take it.
The next day, it’s the sports festival and Chizu shows off her AWESOME RED SHIRT. The red shirt proves to be a winner as Chizu owns everyone to win the soccer game. Not to be sidelined, Sawako also contributes to the game as well, with her awesome kick where she loses her shoe to Kurumi’s head.
That would have left a mark…
After the game, Sawako decides to watch Kazehaya’s baseball game and invites Kurumi to sit with her. Yet again Kurumi gets annoyed that she only likes Kazehaya because he was nice to her, but really it could have been anyone. Suddenly a baseball flies directly into Sawako’s head only to be caught by Ryuu at the crucial moment. Kurumi takes the chance to tell Sawako perhaps that Ryuu who is also close to her and just saved her life is someone that she can fall for instead of Kazehaya. Upping the ante, Kurumi tells Sawako about her middle school days when she used to stalk watch over Kazehaya at all times to let Sawako know just how important he is to her. Still Sawako is not swayed and the story has little effect on her feelings.
Meanwhile Kazehaya who was a bit jealous that Ryuu caught that life-saving ball instead of him confronts his friend, but Ryuu brushes him off saying that he’s got nothing to worry about from him.
I know what you did last summer!
Later that day as Kurumi is planting a fake note in Ryuu’s locker to get him to meet up with Sawako, she’s confronted by Ayane who lets her know that the jig is up. Without directly saying it, Ayane issues Kurumi a challenge that her scheming has been found out.
So clueless hehe!
Sawako decides to meet up with Ryuu to thank him for saving her life and he happens to be led to her by Kurumi’s fake note. Completely oblivious, Sawako is surprised that a note which expressed her intentions materialized in Ryuu’s hands. During their chat, she asks him about love, and he lets her know that he loves Chizu. As they continue their chat, Kurumi leads Kazehaya to ‘accidentally’ bump into them.
So much for best laid plans!
Kazehaya acts completely differently than what Kurumi was expecting though. Hoping that he’d give up and only go for her, Kazehaya instead drops everything and runs off to his beloved Sawako as Kurumi looks in shock.
This post’s kawaii Sawako pic is:
Surprized Sawako is cute Sawako too!
Reaction:
Overall these two episodes could be treated as one as not much happened in them at all. The most notable thing is that Sawako proves to be a completely different kind of enemy, one that Kurumi has never even imagined. Despite all of her efforts at misdirection and intimidation, Sawako is completely oblivious, and manages to consistently overwhelm the cool and calculating Kurumi and get a rise out of her. Considering how in control Kurumi is all the time, this is no small feat, but then again at least for Kurumi’s pride Sawako probably doesn’t realize what she’s done either.
Meanwhile we see how genuine Sawako’s love for Kazehaya really is. Despite her trying to be a helpful friend, she just can’t stop thinking about Kazehaya, and while we all thought she would take a long while before realizing her feelings, she even asks Ryuu what it means to fall in love as if to preempt all of us.
We also get to see that Kazehaya’s love for Sawako is true. The guy’s even getting jealous of Ryuu about it!
Ayane confronting Kurumi was pretty awesome as well.
Next episode seems to be some sort of confession episode, but I wonder if it’s too soon. Seems like this show will run to at least 24 episodes (according to AnimeNewsNetwork), so if it really is a confession episode, we can either expect a lot of ‘first love hijinks’ or a lot of new evil side characters to emerge. I for one and hoping for a lot of date-o episodes, specifically including swan boats in the park, ferris wheels and the such. Perhaps the show will just start focusing more on the other characters once the Kazehaya X Sawako relationship is solidified.
Finally, we get a reaffirmation that Kurumi really is a big idiot. In her mind, she’s been the brilliant one, the one girl who’s managed to thwart all the other girls, but because she was never true to her own feelings, and never confessed to Kazehaya, she’s missed her opportunity. Although even if she confessed, probably nothing would have happened, but at least she could have done more to get his attention rather than take away other girls from him. In the end, she loses against the pure and true personality that is Sawako, but unlike the rest of the blogsphere who hates her guts, I do wish Kurumi all the best. She tried, but ultimately like all the others she twarted, she failed.
One last note. I’m sort of losing my enthusiasm for blogging this show, so Kabitzin will be taking over. It was fun blogging Kimi ni Todoke for all of you, and I hope you will all keep following with Kabi-tan at the helm!
