Katanagatari 07

Probably the most heart-wrenching battle of the show so far. The cinematography and BGM of this scene really hits hard.

Admittedly, Nisioisin really likes to create characters waaaaaaay larger than life sometimes, and Nanami can be rightly put in as one. In a sense, so gifted her body had to be crippled to balance it, yet unable to properly die, it actually gets so convoluted it makes sense she wanted to be killed by a loved one’s hand. Obviously all that power is a huge burden but yet unable to fully utilize it nor get rid of it… it does somewhat justify her grand suicide scheme in the end. Still… this wasn’t really something I wanted to wish or see happen ;_;.
Mai Nakahara’s really great in her element here as Nanami and her death makes it a much more bitter pill to swallow because, honestly, I haven’t heard Mai Nakahara in a notable role other than Katanagatari recently. She will be sorely missed. Thankfully, as a parting gift, she does get to sing this episode’s ED.
Well, now that Katanagatari’s gone to the second half, apparently the creators thought it would be nice to refresh up Togame’s looks, with a little help from Nanami.

Still… I am going to miss that looooong hair.
Togame actually had quite a lot of good parts this episode, like when she slapped Shichika (and epic failing her landing afterwards) and blushing when Shichika thanks her. But the best has to be the when she indirectly hints that she and Shichika are considered “family” now, after he says that he’s all alone now that he’s got no more relatives. That was rather cute.
Next month looks set to be another interesting sword battle against the robotic Kanzashi. Man those Deviant Blades are too damn deviant!
