Summary:
Liang and Cummings help Alphard escape, but to Liang’s tremendous displeasure, Alphard is much more interested in Cumming’s business reports than Liang’s gory schemes to capture and torture Canaan. Liang, however, sends the old guy and grandson from last episode to eliminate Maria, while a naked Alphard stares at an old letter (love letter?!) she received from Siam. In a flashback, Minoru asks Touyama-san about Maria’s past and finds that Maria was kidnapped and injected with the Ua virus in the Shibuya bio-terrorism incident 2 years ago, only to be saved by the anti-virus that her pharmaceutical researcher father, Kenji, came up with.
Of course Maria has mild amnesia and doesn’t remember the incident, and that’s where she originally met Canaan. The old guy (who seems like a child and is referred to as “older brother”) goes crazy chasing Maria, but Maria and Minoru flag down a super-aggressive taxi driver and get away. Canaan conveniently shows up to fight the old guy, and quickly tricks him into jumping into some wires; can’t let fighting bad guys get in the way of shopping, drinking tea, and making cat’s cradles.
Reaction:
The conversation with Liang and the angle made it seem as if Liang’s masked goons killed someone, but those guys were shown earlier masquerading as staff at Maria’s hotel. It seems like Maria is still a latent carrier (at least) of the Ua virus, and perhaps Snake was behind the Shibuya incident 2 years ago. There are no coincidences in fanservice, and I found it meaningful that Maria’s pan shot had her getting freaky with a huge snake. I also enjoyed Natsume jealously hoping that Canaan and Alphard will kill each other, just because Natsume has no friends and Canaan (probably) has no menstrual cycle.
The CIA should be ashamed of its lax standards. WTF is up with Alphard having her hands bound in front of her, and one guard napping with his rifle right next to Alphard while the other guard naps with his rifle on his lap? If Liang and Cummings hadn’t shown up, Alphard would have been able to escape by herself. Alphard was probably just waiting for Cummings to arrive so that she could read the TPS reports on the ride home! Finally, what is the deal with lingerie and nekomimi Hakkoo? Is it Halloween already? Is Santana aware of this development?
