Ask Yourself: Is That Really A Harem?

From Baka-Raptor:

I have a strict, classical view of the harem anime—the only view that makes any sense. If you think a harem requires nothing more than at least three girls chasing one guy, you’re missing the point. A harem is much more than a three-girl quota; several additional conditions must be met.

Baka-Raptor makes a good point about the importance of Simultaneity.  I noticed that School Days was missing from his list (even though he has watched it), so I wonder if other prerequisites exclude the series from being a harem series.  After all, if anyone understands simultaneity, it’s Makoto.

Also, I liken male characters going off with one character at a time for a few episodes to being at a large buffet where the restaurant only supplies very small plates.
