OreImo Light Novel Gets Anime

Yeah, Anime News Network just reported it.

An anime adaptation of Tsukasa Fushimi’s Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai light novel series has been green-lit. The story follows the daily life of a high school boy named Kyōsuke Kōsaka. Kyōsuke’s younger sister Kirino is a fashion model but also a secret otaku. Fushimi has been writing the light novels since 2008, and the sixth volume is shipping in May.

Not surprising news since the manga just started and a really high quality Drama CD for OreImo also came out recently. It’s quite the quirky series and definitely in the “moé“(shit) niche so it’s not gonna be for everyone.

I do hope they keep the cast from the drama CD, Nakamura Yuichi did a great job in it as the brother and Kana Hanazawa in a rather different type of character than she usually gets was pretty awesome fun. Taketatsu Ayana voices the imouto, by the way.

Let’s just hope a /decent/ production studio gets this job.

Nanoha movie mini-post

Nanoha Movie 1st

After four months, a camrip of the Nanoha movie is out and I shamelessly downloaded it. Quality’s not too bad, especially when compared to previous experiences with other camrips I downloaded.

Spoilers are inbound, so if you’d prefer to wait for the Blu-Ray, best not to read.

Let’s just say, the whole movie is the first season of Nanoha, badass’ed by a factor of about 2.5. They put in 3 fights in the first THIRTY minutes alone. The henshin sequences were seriously pimped up (although thankfully, it’s only once for each of our heroines). Raising Heart probably got more lines in the first 45 minutes of the movie than in THREE Nanoha seasons combined and man, they really did made her badass as fuck. Built in FCS, Cannon Mode… even the “image training” shit got upgraded in to a military-style training program.

Obviously, the production crew really knew where to put their money and the fights are, at the risk of sounding tired, badass. Nanoha pulls off her most impressive Starlight Breaker in the climax of the movie, but Fate also gets to show off some new moves too. The overall choreography of the fights are really good as well.

One great thing about the movie is that Precia, Fate and Alicia’s backstory is explored and explained a lot more. Really, Precia is truly an idiot for not realizing that some things are meant to be lost as well as not noticing the happiness before her own eyes. Missing the tree for the forest much, sigh. Her story and character feels a lot more human and tragic compared to the original, where she mainly just acted like a abusing bitch to the end.

Of course, no mention of the movie is complete without talking about the “namae wo yonde…” scene. Suffice to say, even though I was prepared for it, it still hit me quite hard. Heck, the guy recording it was actually sobbing a little bit as well, haha.

Anyways, I’d better start to save up for the Blu-Ray. Geez, I do hope it doesn’t go over 10k yen for the special editions. No word yet on when or how the Blu-Rays or DVDs are coming out but hopefully soon enough.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama 04

Kaichou wa Maid-sama

So how many of you guys had to unfap to this?

I quite liked this episode. They expanded Aoi’s character a little bit and added some great scenes with him and Misaki going off together. I liked on how they emphasized how similar both Aoi and Misaki are at in terms of dealing with peer pressure about each other’s genders, and how Misaki tells Aoi to just be one’s self if that makes you the most comfortable. It’s pretty much how I go about my life as well. No use denying what you like only to please the opinions of others.

In the end, this turned out to be my favourite episode of Maid-sama so far. At this rate, the anime adaptation of Maid-sama is going to turn out to be one of the rare ones that are actually superior than the original source. I have to admit, the original manga didn’t really seem to have much direction at times and just felt like things were being crammed in it just because it looks interesting. The anime seems to be improving it to be a lot better however, so I hope it continues to be this way.

Round like a circle in a spiral

I have always found horror fiction interesting although I prefer psychological horror over the visceral variety (gore and violence). While the splatter genre of horror presents the frailties of the human body, psychological horror, on the other hand, plays upon the frailties of the human psyche.

I have learned recently of yet another subgenre of horror, Lovecraftian horror, which emphasizes the fear of the unknown (or the unknowable). I was reading about this at Wikipedia when I came across the article for mangaka Junji Ito, whose works are said to have Lovecraftian influences. One of his works intrigued me: a story of a town haunted by a pattern, the spiral. I looked it up and slowly I was drawn into the vortex that is Uzumaki.

In Uzumaki, we follow high school student Kirie Goshima as she witnesses the strange occurrences that befell upon the small town of Kurôzu-cho. First, her boyfriend’s dad develops a morbid fascination towards spirals, to the point of contorting his own body into that shape. Things soon become more and more bizarre: his wife mutilates her own cochlea, people turn into snails, and a typhoon falls in love with the protagonist. It’s as if life’s banality is slowly being stripped away, revealing a reality so sinister it defies all logic.

Uzumaki does not rely on traditional horror elements (demons, monsters, aliens and what-have-you’s) and although there are some body horror, the manga evokes fear through the unknown and the unexpected. After all, who would’ve thought that the simple spiral could bear a curse?

Arakawa Under the Bridge 04

Arakawa Under the Bridge

… pretty much describes the show. Again.

This week we are introduced to two more inhabitants of the riverbank. First is Stella, one of Sister’s acquaintences…

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Aww…. isn’t she cut—

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Or not. Aiiiiieeeeeeeeeee!!!

Arakawa Under the Bridge

“Only” up to 3-hit combos?! Holy shit, I don’t want to see her going all out on me now.

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Uh, yeah… definitely not that cute anymore. Mama, I’m scared ;_;….

Okay, maybe the next person will be nicer….

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Yeah, doesn’t she look really beautiful and kind? (Not to mention she kinda reminds me of Sheryl Nome, lol)

Arakawa Under the Bridge

WHAT?!!

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Did… did….did she just tell me to fuck off and die?

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Oh god, she’s even doing that to Sister!

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Holy shit, Sister went down. I repeat…SISTER WENT DOWN!!!

Oh wow, that was a crazy hell episode of Arakawa. Geez, and I’d thought we met all the weirdos already. I guess I was expecting wrong.

Stella and Maria are voiced by Saitou Chiwa and Miyuki Sawashiro respectively and oh boy oh boy, both of them are sure leveraging their vocals in an extremely mad way. Chiwa’s Maria is an equal blend of her normal cute voice crossed with the crazy psychotic tones she can take, while Miyuki Sawashiro is insulting people so utterly in a voice so elegant it really, really makes you wanna just eat shit and die.

Poor Rikku.

Mayoi Neko Overrun! 04 is fucking awesome

Mayoi Neko Overrun!

This week’s director is Akitaro Daichi, the director of Gag Manga Biyori for those unfamiliar with his name. Does that explain much already?

Also, I am going to quote Midonin from AnimeSuki about this episode, because I don’t think I’ll be able to put it as eloquently as he did:

Now, in the time I’ve spent watching anime (three years, give or take), I’ve seen plenty of ping pong games. Games that have battle auras. Games that have balls going down into cleavage. (That one’s a favorite.) But for as long as I live, I may never see a ping pong game to top this one. It was 2001: A Ping Pong Freaking Space Odyssey. It’s also the first scene you could literally set your watch to.

And this doesn’t even come close to describing the sheer madness of the whole episode. No joke. There’s amazing shit like Kaho (OH GOD YUKARIN) and the gay scenes. Also the most least clothed episode of the show so far. Not to mention the music accompaniment is amazingly awesome this week.

I am going to wait for a better source before I do another post on this. Because it deserves that much.

Working!! 04

Working!!

Haha, they really went and introduced the sisters this episode. Yeah, they’re definitely amazing in some sense. Especially Nazuna, the youngest. Is she really just 12 years old?! No wonder Takanashi has that fetish for small and cute things. Poor guy has been tortured “loved” too much by his elder sisters.

Working!!

Inami’s crush on Takanashi just grows bigger and bigger and claiming more victims now. I kinda pity Souma-san for getting hit like that, but after seeing how his character is like in the episode, I can’t shake off that feeling he just really brought it on to himself, ha ha. I guess she really is a “bou(ryoku) dere” lol.

Working!!

Also…. OMG SMALL TAKANASHI IS CUTE OMG OMG OMG!

It’s quite a wonder how his masculinity managed to survive intact after all that, ha ha ha. And seriously where is their mother?

Angel Beats! 04

Angel Beats!

Yui-nyan♥! She is surprisingly endearing, in a funny manner, after you watch her for a while. Not to mention she has a tendency to act cute and still tsukkomi at the same time.

Angel Beats!

Hinata decides to finally come out of the closet. Watch out, Otonashi!

Angel Beats!

Uh-oh, Tenshi is very annoyed. Very very annoyed.

Angel Beats!

Of course, this makes Yurippe very very happy. Ohohohohohohohoho~~ (evil laugh manner)

Taking a small breather it seems, as this episode of AB! was quite laidback and strangely devoid of info dumps unlike the last three. In fact, they even lampshaded themselves with Hinata, since they kinda hinted at him about to disappear as well only to disprove that right before the episode ended. Hurr.

I quite like the new OP. Yui is quite the energetic type and pretty genre-savvy as well in certain aspects, so it was surprisingly quite a blast to see her prance around and annoy Hinata. Will there be a relationship between the two in the future? Hmm… time will tell. So far it doesn’t seem to be any romantic relationships between anyone yet.

Another surprising thing is the introduction of the student council vice-president. I’d thought all along that Tenshi was the only one in it, but it seems I was mistaken. Perhaps the other members are actually mostly NPCs too, which probably explains why we haven’t really seem them around until now. Speaking of Tenshi, that annoyed arms-crossed look was rather LOL, given the fact she’s also wearing a sports jacket and acting as the team manager as well.

Next week on Angel Beats!, exams! Oh god, even in death we can’t escape exams? Next they are going to tell us that everyone needs to pay taxes or something like that in the school, hurr.

My Soul Your Beats! Rock Version

Angel Beats!

Hurr… GirlDeMo rendition of My Soul Your Beats is pretty damn good. The vocals are definitely better, especially for those who aren’t a fan of Lia’s “screechy” voice. Of course, the original still has its merits, like the piano parts, the piano parts and oh, the piano parts.

Thank god they got real vocalists to sing for GirlDeMo though, I would dig out my eardrums if they got Yui’s seiyuu (Kitamura Eri) to sing orz.
